Ben Butler will be understudying the role of 'Max Weinbaum' in the Tony Award winning play 'Good Night, Oscar' which will be playing at The Barbican.
The play is set in 1958 in a tv studio in Los Angeles. Oscar Levant (played by Sean Hayes), a well known and respected pianist and raconteur, who suffers from mental health issues, is released from hospital for four hours in order to appear on Jack Paar's tv talk show. The climax of the play is when Oscar plays Rapsody in Blue by George Gershwin.
The play is insightful into Oscar's state of mind, especially in the relationship with his wife, Jack Paar and the hospital orderly. The play however is a comedy!
